Funding the change that could transform our world

The emerging green economy is creating a wealth of opportunities for innovative clean technologies to develop around the world – and the CCEMC is at the forefront of this new industry.

Will Alberta be the spark for this generation’s next big idea?

The Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation received 223 Expressions of Interest, shortlisted those projects and  invited thirty projects to submit complete proposals. By the submissions deadline of February 26, 2010, twenty-six proposals had been received and the final review process is now underway.

To ensure applicants fully understand the expectations of the review board, each project has been assigned an advisor to help guide them through the evaluation process. The Evaluation Committee has completed its initial review of submissions and is now meeting with each applicant for the oral presentation phase, a chance for applicants to address questions and support their written applications. The last of these presentations should be wrapping up at the end April.

At the same time, an independent team of technical experts will evaluate the written applications. Using the ProGridTM methodology, reports will be provided to the Evaluation Committee for consideration during the consensus meeting. (ProGridTM is a rigorous and objective method that is used by a large number and range of organizations in evaluating grant applications and project proposals).

To ensure that each applicant receives a balanced consideration, an independent Fairness Monitor has been appointed to oversee all stages of the evaluation process. Prior to project approvals, the Fairness Monitor will submit findings on the process to the Board of Directors.

The final stage in the evaluation process is a Consensus Meeting where all projects will be discussed, the technical and financial risk analyzed, a consensus reached, and recommendations made. The committee’s recommendations will be sent to the CCEMC Board of Directors for final review and deliberation and project approvals should be made before the end of June.
